Starting something new comes with an odd pressure to get the opening right, as if the first entry sets the terms for everyone that follows it. It doesn't. A first day of anything is usually clumsy and half-formed, more like clearing your throat than making a statement. Therapists sometimes describe the difference between a single presenting moment and the whole shape of a person — one entry, one attempt, tells you almost nothing about where this is going. Today doesn't need to prove anything about who you are. It just needs to happen, in whatever imperfect form it takes.
Thought for the day
“You don't have to like the beginning to trust that it's honest.”
A question to sit with
What would you write today if you didn't have to make it a good "first entry"?
One small action
Write one sentence about your day, cross nothing out, and stop there.
