Five Senses & Sensory Grounding

The Walking Senses Scan

5 minutes.

What it does

Moving through a short walk while deliberately rotating attention through each sense combines gentle movement with sensory grounding, which can help settle both a restless body and a busy mind at once.

How to practice

  1. 1Choose a short walking route, indoors or outdoors, that takes a few minutes.
  2. 2For the first minute, focus only on what you can see — colors, shapes, movement.
  3. 3For the next minute, focus only on what you can hear.
  4. 4For the next minute, notice smells in the air around you.
  5. 5For the last minute, focus on the physical sensation of walking — your feet, your breath, the air on your skin.
  6. 6Pause at the end and notice how your body feels compared to when you started.

When to use it
